The Chicago Cubs selected LeMahieu in the second round, with the 79th overall selection, of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft and called up from the minors on May 30, 2011. On December 8, 2011, the Cubs traded LeMahieu to the Colorado Rockies. He won his first Gold Glove in 2014. He was selected to the National League roster for the 2015 and 2017 Major League Baseball All-Star Games. In 2016, LeMahieu won the National League batting title after batting .439 in August and .363 in September. His .348 season average led all of Major League Baseball.
